After one year working as associate veterinarians in private practices in Northumberland County, Lex Luttikhuis and Michelle Chiunti opted to form their own veterinary business. Initially, Michelle provided equine veterinary care throughout the county. However, the search was on for a site for a small animal hospital. Because of its proximity to Highway 401, affordability, and potential for growth, Colborne, Ontario provided the location we settled upon.
The clinic operated out of the back 700 square feet of a century home on Percy St. purchased in October of 1990. We became accredited as Northumberland Veterinary Service on November 5, 1991.
In 1993, Lex and Michelle were already feeling the strain of the small space available. In March 1994, the current building was constructed on the south side of the property. From our humble beginnings, we currently provide services from a well-equipped, century home-like 7000 square foot facility.
After 21 years, it is great and satisfying to see many faces of the original clients that walked through that back door of our house/clinic. It has always been our goal to provide the caring and affordable services to all pets. This approach has been very successful and our client list continues to grow daily.
Sincere thanks go out to all of our clients, patients and staff we’ve had the privilege to work with over the years. We could not do what we do without our amazing staff. There have been a few changes over the years, and many additions. Our staff is our biggest and best asset at Northumberland Veterinary Service.
Our goal is to provide the best care for your animals and the best service to you, our clients. Due to our large caseload and clientele base, we provide years of experience in all areas of medicine to guide you to the best solution that works within your means. We understand that medicine is expensive, and when available we will provide you with a range of alternatives that suits your situation.
